Sensitive Midwifery Symposium

Sensitive Midwifery Symposium is one of the biggest and most prestigious midwifery and perinatal conferences in Africa, initiated in 1996 by the Sister Lilian Centre in South Africa. The Sister Lilian Centre is a midwifery, pregnancy, birth and parenting advice centre started by well-known South African midwife, health educator and parenting advisor, Lilian Paramor, known as Sister Lilian. Sensitive Midwifery Symposium progressively gave birth to related Sensitive Midwifery initiatives, like Sensitive Midwifery Magazine and Sensitive Midwifery Academy.

The mission of Sensitive Midwifery Symposium is to make a positive difference to midwifery and maternity and child care, while celebrating the caring professions involved. There is an innovative blend of expertise updates, advocacy of sensitive care, challenging of practices that harm, exposure to relevant complementary health fields and encouragement of professional morale.

In 2014, the theme of Sensitive Midwifery Symposium is SENSITIVE IS STRONG. Conferencing will take place in Midrand (Gauteng Province), Durban (KwaZulu Natal province) and Cape Town (Western Cape Province). Click on the Current Programme tab to the right to see more.
